Choose a clear objective
Decide whether the session is for review, discovery, teamwork or celebration. A focused objective makes it easier to choose categories and decide how much explanation to include.
Balance teams and formats
Use small teams and rotate who answers first. Mix individual questions, team consultation, rapid rounds and reference-finding activities so that different strengths contribute.
Make explanations part of the game
After each answer, read the reference and give a brief context note. Awarding a small bonus for explaining why an answer is correct shifts attention from guessing toward learning.
Keep scoring transparent
Explain points, time limits and tie-breakers before the first question. Avoid rules that embarrass a participant for a wrong answer; let teams recover through later rounds.
End with reflection
Ask each team to name one fact they learned and one passage they want to read. A two-minute reflection helps the event produce more than a final score.
